Officers responded just after 7 p.m to a report that someone with a stab wound had walked into the Port Place Shopping Centre.
Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a fatal stabbing Sunday night in the parking lot of a downtown shopping centre.“That person was receiving emergency first-aid from bystanders and later by first responders,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien.A suspect was taken into custody soon after police arrived. Charges have yet to be laid and police said it is too early to say if he had any connection to the victim.
“We can say with confidence that we are not looking for any further suspects, and there is no risk to the public,” O’Brien said. The parking lot and a portion of the shopping centre were closed for a number of hours as the scene was checked for forensic evidence. Police are asking for any witnesses or people with dashcam video from the area of the incident to come forward. Contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
