North Lanarkshire families and school staff voted overwhelmingly in favour of shortening the summer holidays in a public consultation over reconfiguring the area’s academic calendar.

Pupil councils were more strongly in favour of having more time off in winter, with 14 supporting the latter option to lengthen the existing three-day February break compared to four supporting the October option. A report for councillors on the outcome states: “Implementation of such changes could not take place before session 2025-26 and would be subject to further discussion with West Partnership [councils] and trade unions.”
