SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has confirmed that two foreign internationals will be leaving the club.
When asked which players are heading out at SuperSport, Matthews said to the Siya crew;" Waiswa and Mahachi."Both players will see their contracts expiring at the end of June and SuperSport will not be keeping the duo beyond that. Mahachi was recently suspended by the club following allegations of child abuse.
The past season was, in fact, not the best for Mahachi. The Zimbabwean international made just nine appearances in all competitions for Matsatsantsa. The last time he featured for the club was in February and now his three year relationship with the Tshwane outfit has come to an end. Waiswa, a Ugandan international, also struggled to break into the team consistently. The midfielder made 15 appearances for the club during the past season, with no goals or assists.
Waiswa joined SuperSport during the January transfer window in 2020, but was unable to make a mark while in the colours of the the former Premiership champions.SuperSport, meanwhile, confirmed earlier this week that they are working on a new deal to keep striker Thamsanqa Gabuza at the club. Gabuza remains a key member of the squad, as SuperSport value his experience in a squad with quite a number of youngsters.
Close to 50 PSL players have been released from their clubs. What knock-on effect will this have for the players and the clubs alike? Find out by clicking on the podcast player below!
