Phoenix Suns announced Sunday Cam Johnson tore the meniscus in his right knee in Friday's loss against Portland and will undergo surgery.

Cam Johnson suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee in Friday night’s loss to Portland at Footprint Center and will undergo surgery, the Suns announced Sunday morning.Johnson hurt his knee in the first quarter Friday on a non-contact play trying to get back on defense. He checked out the game with 6:46 left in the quarter and didn’t return.

“It’s really tough, obviously the most for him,” said Suns All-Star Devin Booker after Saturday’s game. “We’re here with him with whatever he needs. He’s going to be around the team. We say family every time we break it and that’s the situation we’re in.”The Athletic first reported the Suns feared Johnson had torn his meniscus. Johnson was playing some of the best basketball in his pro career early in his fourth NBA season.

“Yeah man, it’s unfortunate,” said Suns All-Star Chris Paul after Saturday’s game. “This is my third year here and just getting to know Cam and knowing how great of a guy he is, how hard he works. Getting into the starting lineup. It’s a big year for him. It’s not it. Just a hurdle that he’s going to have to overcome and we’re going to be right there with him."
