Sundowns In the Hunt For Another International Attacker?
NELSPRUIT, SOUTH AFRICA - JUNE 01: Rulani Mokwena of Mamelodi Sundowns during the Nedbank Cup, final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium on June 01, 2024 in Nelspruit, South Africa.
Siya sources have indicated that negotiations are underway, with Petro de Luanda open to selling their prized asset for the right price. The sources familiar with the situation added that the Angolan champions are keen to capitalise on Gilberto's market value before the risk of losing him as a free agent looms.
However, Sundowns' pursuit of Gilberto is not without its challenges. A second Siya source highlighted the potential competition from European clubs, which Petro de Luanda might prioritise. "There has also been interest and inquiry from Belgium since the start of the season but the problem was the money issues. So, if Sundowns would better that money then they would have the advantage of signing the player. They have brought players from Europe to South Africa before and the way they are interested in Gilberto I think they will fight for his signature as well," the second source stated.
