Summerside-based Catholic convent – Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Ragusa – has launched a $2 million fundraising campaign to allow for the construction of a 60-student daycare facility.

There is a significant need in P.E.I. for childcare capacity, she added, so this project is a way she and her sisters can make an important contribution to the community.

The new facility would be built as an addition to the existing convent. It would be “faith-based, but inclusive,” with any family, regardless of religious background or affiliation, welcome to apply for a space. “So, we don’t really have enough. But I always think that what is impossible with man, is possible with God. It always comes .

The sisters have already raised about $150,000 for the project and hope the community can help raise the remaining funds. Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible contribution can contact the sisters directly. The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus have always aspired to open a large daycare facility in Summerside. While they work towards that goal the sisters are approved to operate a small home-based daycare for up to seven children at their convent. - Colin MacLean
