t’s been a busy construction season in the town and that’s led to frustration for both locals and people headed to the mountains as they deal with detours and delays.
Cochrane is growing at a rapid rate — now with a population of around 35,000 — but it also gets a slew of traffic from travelers headed to the hills.
Alternate routes have been set up and a temporary roundabout is being constructed on the northwest corner of the interchange, which will be open in August. It remains to be seen how the new roundabout will impact the flow. According to the province, the intersection at Highway 1A and Highway 22 sees an average of more than 29,000 vehicles a day and the numbers are also expected to increase significantly over the coming years.
