Well, I said I was going to be watching what the new Joker season might do to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s playercount as a metric to see if the game’s live content may turn things around, and with early numbers in, the answer is no, absolutely not.
It is of course not terribly surprising to see that Suicide Squad has not risen to be back in the PlayStation top 10, even if it was the platform where the game sold the best, and at launch, it was #1 for a time. Nor is it shocking that it’s not in theThe Joker season did spark about a 500% increase in players at launch, though the caveat being that that’s going from about 600 peak players to 3,000 players.
I don’t think I need to explain how bad this is and how it reinforces the idea that this game is essentially dead. The worst part, however, is what I would consider Rocksteady totally sticking their heads in the stand, writingabout “so many people” enjoying the Joker season and extolling its breadth of new content that simply does not exist. It’s play-acting, and just enrages the community further.
There will be a second episode in six weeks, continuing the Joker season. But with reports that it will likely be little more than a Superman Brainiac fight echoing the campaign’s and a couple Joker motion comics, we’re not going to see a surge even back to 3,000 again, I can tell you that. And next season, fewer people are going to show up for a gender-flipped Ms. Freeze than they will the Joker.
It’s over, it’s been over. But I’m going to keep chronicling what’s going on here until it’s official.
