Police believe suspect misappropriated more than $100K over the course of a year
A Sudbury woman has been arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000 in connection with an investigation at a Sudbury business that began in June.
Greater Sudbury Police Service said detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division began the investigation when it was believed that an employee was using company funds and forging accounting entries for personal financial gain. Police did not reveal the name of the business.
Detectives interviewed several witnesses and obtained a search warrant for the suspect's personal banking records, said police. Based on their findings, police arrested and charged the 41-year-old woman with fraud over $5,000. said a GSPS news release. Police said it is believed that more than $104,000 was misappropriated from the business over the course of a year.The GSPS news release said businesses should regularly conduct audits to ensure that internal accounting controls such as segregation of duties and multiple authorization safeguards are in place.
