Around 70% of subpostmasters earn less than the equivalent of the minimum wage from their branches

Northern Irish Subpostmasters have highlighted the pressures on the Post Office network at a meeting in Westminister where it was revealed that the majority are earning less than the minimum wage from their branches.

The meeting heard from National Federation of SubPostmasters , representative, Jim McCafferty, the Non-Executive Director for Northern Ireland, and a member of the NFSP Board, who highlighted the issues facing the roughly 500 branches in Northern Ireland.

Recently, the Government has announced the removal of car tax from over post office counters. Six million DVLA transactions are currently carried out at the post office, with more than half of these paid for with cash, yet the Government are planning to remove these services from the PO network and offer DVLA online only, disadvantaging the digitally challenged and most vulnerable in society.
