And for good reason; giving thought and care to creating products that are better for the planet, put simply, is stylish.
But, while some companies are using the word ‘sustainable’ as more of a trendy talking point, there are several small businesses that are building their outfits, from the ground up, with the idea of eco-consciousness as their very foundation.We caught up with mother-daughter design duo Acacia Cresswell and Sandra McIntyre to learn more about the brand, their eco element and what makes their creations unique.A. Serenity West is a Vancouver-based company inspired by a modern, West Coast calmness.
We are constantly inspired by nature and the west coast in particular; we wanted to bring that feeling of serenity in nature into the home, and to fit a modern lifestyle, balancing work and play.A. First of all, how often do you see mothers and daughters working together? But in all seriousness, Serenity West aims to design and produce home décor and fashion that answer our concerns, and suit our lifestyles.
Q. You’re a mother-daughter team behind the brand. What made the two of you want to work together on this project? A. Sandra has long wanted to create products that are both aesthetically pleasing, environmental and serve a function in her own home. In the process of thinking about using her favourite fabric in her home and wardrobe, Sandra approached Acacia to help with marketing and photography. It seemed the perfect fit because we have always gotten along and have many things in common. Like any good partnership, each person has their strengths and complimentary skills.
