“In the month of October, we served 9,500 hampers at the food bank. The previous year we served in the same time period at 8,700. So that’s a significant increase.” She said this year councillors are launching their own competition to see who can collect the most food. She said the winner, to be announced in January, will win the Golden Lettuce Award.“This is one of the biggest food drives in the city,” he said. “And Calgarians can actually give back all the year through this process, but we hype it up this time of year because we know this is when the community needs it most.
