DCN-JOC News ServicesTORONTO — To show solidarity with striking Technical Standards and Safety Authority safety inspectors, OPSEU/SEFPO’s executive board and Provincial Young Workers Committee jointly donated $10,000 to the #StrikeForSafety.
A fundraising initiative at the PYC’s annual conference in August raised $537 in a raffle draw. PYC also joined OPSEU/SEFPO Local 546 TSSA inspectors on the picket line at the end of the conference, indicates an OPSEU release. OPSEU/SEFPO’s executive board then passed a motion to match and increase the donation to $10,000. The funds will be drawn from the Contingency Fund.
“Safety inspectors working for TSSA deserve a collective agreement that reflects the skill and dedication they show to public safety, and they deserve to be treated with respect by their employer,” states the release. “OPSEU/SEFPO’s Board and PYC support the 170 safety inspectors in the fight for a fair collective agreement that will protect these workers for years to come, and we hope that this donation helps to keep their fight going.
