Norman Afzal Simons, the alleged Station Strangler, will be placed under strict parole conditions upon his release on Thursday, 20 July 2023.

This assurance was given by the Department of Correctional Services during a community meeting with Mitchells Plain residents to address his impending release.

Following an unsuccessful appeal, his sentence was elevated to life imprisonment of which he served 28 years behind bars., Simons will be placed under strict 24-hour house arrest conditions, according to Ronnie Bila, the head of community corrections for the Bellville area. As part of the conditions, Simons will be prohibited from having any contact with children, and an official from the department will conduct eight monthly visits to his residence.

He will be restricted from engaging with the media unless he submits an application to the department seeking permission.
