The system was expected to mostly clear off to the east late Friday night, but showers are possible Saturday
A passing storm proved to be a bit rowdier than expected late Friday, producing wild winds, thunder, lightning, hail and rain across parts of San Diego County less than a week before the spring equinox. The National Weather Service says the system hit Orange County and the Inland Empire then slumped south into the Camp Pendleton area around 4 p.m., sparking lightning across the Marine base, which also got hail.
The system then slowly spread to Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Vista, Valley Center and Rancho Bernardo, delivering hail in some spots, thunder and lightning in others, and rain across much of the region. Vista and Fallbrook recorded about 0.50 inches of precipitation and the area southwest of Valley Center received 0.45 inches. Forecasters said the storm was moving south-southeast shortly before 8 p.m. Friday and was expected to mostly move out of the region by early Saturday.
