Legislation on tax regime for $40-billion LNG Canada project was opposed by the B.C. Greens.
VICTORIA — The New Democrat government passed legislation Thursday to enable the $40-billion LNG Canada project in Kitimat, but had to turn to unusual allies to get the job done.
The law gives the LNG Canada project a three per cent natural gas tax credit, repeals an LNG income tax, exempts the project from increases to the carbon tax and exempts it from paying sales tax during initial construction . The Liberals did manage to amend part of the legislation to keep some of the LNG framework they as a former government had passed as well.
