Springbok loose forward Evan Roos sustained a serious facial injury, likely a cheekbone fracture, after being targeted with a high tackle in the Stormers' Champions Cup loss to Racing 92.
One of the Stormers ’ Springbok stars was taken out with a cheap shot to the head in their clash against French side Racing 92. The Stormers are sweating over their superstar Springbok loose forward Evan Roos, who sustained a deliberate cheat shot to the head this past weekend. John Dobson is counting the cost of the Stormers ’ 31-22 defeat to Racing in Paris on Saturday night.
The undesired result in the French capital not only saw the Cape side eliminated from the Champions Cup, but also left Dobson and co to sweat about the injury toll it took on the players. Evan Roos, Suleiman Hartzenberg and Joseph Dweba all suffered knocks, but Springbok loose forward’s facial injury is of a more serious nature than his teammates. “We’re going to have to check on Joseph, it looks like just a stinger, Suleiman Hartzenberg potentially has a fractured hand, and Evan Roos has done something serious to his cheekbone,” Dobson was quoted post-match in the media. As per the Stormers, Roos underwent scans on Monday to determine the extent of the injury, which is likely to be a cheekbone fracture. The 25-year-old Springbok picked up the injury, or rather was taken out of play, when he was brought down by prop Thomas Laclayat after a strong ball carry. Australian expat Feleti Kaitu’u (hooker) is then seen charging into the ruck area from the side with a stiff arm and hitting Roos in the side of his head.
