The new version of the excessive rainfall outlook was issued as a potentmoved into California; the moisture-packed system is expected to dump copious amounts of rain into Friday and Saturday — and the coastline between Salinas and San Luis Obispo is expected to get hit especially hard.
Behringer said it’s unusual for any region to be put in the high-risk category, and since 2016, the state has on average announced one high-risk warning a year. On the Central Coast, specifically, one very small portion of the region was considered high risk during a storm event in 2021. “Other than that, [the area has] not had one since 2010,” Behringer said. “It’s unusual.”
