A new Member of Parliament is being elected for the Staffordshire constituency which includes the following wards: Barlaston; Fulford; Swynnerton & Oulton; Checkley; Forsbrook; Blurton; Dresden & Florence; Hanford, Newstead & Trentham; Hollybush; Lightwood North & Normacot; nearly all of Longton & Meir Hay South; the majority of Meir Hay North, Parkhall & Weston Coney; Meir North; Meir Park and Meir South.
Before the election, the seat was held by Conservative Jack Brereton, who won it in 2017. It had previously been a Labour safe seat.The shock summer general election was called by Rishi Sunak on May 22, with elections taking place in all 650 seats across the UK. Since the 2019 general election major boundary changes affecting 90 per cent of Parliamentary constituencies have come into force.Polls closed in the general election 2024 at 10pm on Thursday, July 4, with counts taking place overnight.
