Taxpayers in Georgia who received an extension on their income tax filing deadline have 10 more days to file their returns to see a tax rebate of up to $500.

Most taxpayers in the state filed their taxes at the regular deadline, in April, and they received their tax rebate shortly after, but those in the Peach State who were affected by severe storms earlier this year were allowed to file their taxes by Oct. 16, according to the IRS. Those taxpayers will see their rebates once they have filed their 2022 tax returns. The amount for each rebate that is being sent out to taxpayers is dependent on the Georgian's filing status and tax liability.

To qualify for the rebate, taxpayers must have filed their income tax returns for 2021 and 2022, had a tax liability in 2021, and be a"Georgia resident, part-year resident, or nonresident."“Georgia is once again in a position to issue surplus tax refunds thanks to years of responsible, conservative budgeting and because we chose to protect both lives and livelihoods during the pandemic,” Gov. Brian Kemp said in a statement about the tax rebate in May.

“While failed policies coming out of Washington, D.C. are pushing us closer to a recession and forcing hardworking Georgians to endure sky-high inflation, we on the state level are doing what we can to return money back where it belongs — in taxpayers' hands," he said.
