Assistant coach Mzwandile Stick has backed Eben Etzebeth to make a huge impact off the bench for the Springboks against the All Blacks at Ellis Park on Saturday.
Initially excluded by injury for the first of two Tests against New Zealand in the Republic, Etzebeth was on Wednesday cleared for the Rugby Championship clash in Joburg.
The Test will mark Etzebeth’s 125th in the green and gold jersey and he is on track to overtake Bryan Habana into second place among the most-capped players in Bok history – Victor Matfield leads with a record of 127 Test caps. “We’ve selected a strong team, and we have players like Pieter-Steph , while Ruan has really grabbed his opportunity.“We’ve selected a well-balanced side with players who can make a strong impact off the bench and which we believe can counter what they throw at us.
The Boks will go in search of their third victory in as many games and attempt to stretch their lead at the top of the Rugby Championship standings on Saturday.
