Steven Naismith, the Hearts boss, expressed his frustration with the penalty decision and VAR in their defeat against Rangers. Naismith claimed that referee John Beaton did not show him an angle of a 'block' in the build-up to the spot-kick, and stated that VAR had failed his side.
Raging Steven Naismith has declared Rangers should NOT have been an awarded a penalty in the closing stages of their Ibrox defeat.
However, the game would be flipped on it's head when substitute Peter Haring appeared to pull Connor Goldson's shirt - and after a VAR check whistler Beaton was sent to the monitor to review the incident and pointed to the spot. James Tavernier would convert Rangers second penalty of the afternoon - having hit the post with his first-half effort - before Danilo netted an injury-time winner for Philippe Clement's men.
"If VAR is here to stop things happening; throughout the whole game we highlighted that there was clear blocking going on in the box, where the players are not interested in the ball, they are looking at our players, which I was then told 'if that happens and they score from it, it would then be brought back as a foul.' Then the penalty they get, the initial contact is made by a player blocking our player, which VAR should then go and look at.
