The life of Steve Pemberton - Happy Valley, Inside Number 9, League of Gentlemen and BAFTA success
Another instalment of BBC's acclaimed Happy Valley airs this Sunday and if the previous episodes are anything to go by, it will no doubt leave the nation gripped.
Steve Pemberton's character Kevin Weatherill took the nation's breath away when he went from meek accountant to twisted criminal in the space of a single episode. In true Happy Valley fashion, the rest of Kevin's storyline was filled with intense twists and turns, a nail biting cliff hanger and gory climax which set the tone for the following two seasons. But way before appearing on Happy Valley Steve, who was born in Blackburn, left his Lancashire roots for the Yorkshire Dales.
In 1996 Steve and his college friends Mark Gatiss, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson went to the Edinburgh festival with their comedy show The League of Gentlemen. It was here the award winning actor and his troupe bagged himself the coveted Perrier Comedy prize a year later. Years later, Steve and Reece would team-up again to write and star in the multi-award winning black comedy Psychoville which ran for two series and a Halloween special.
