At a time when media success stories are scarce, the Steve Dangle Podcast Network is growing with a simple premise: Sports are fun.
“I would say the idea maybe picked up steam a couple of years ago. During COVID, we spent a lot of time in our own minds trying to figure out the future. And Adam, Jesse and I continued to do our hockey podcast when there was no hockey. And we actually saw some success with that, to our surprise. So that sort of gave us an inclination that this might work.”
Glynn’s success is a lesson in betting on yourself and learning a variety of useful skills — in his case writing, editing, sound and promotion. “It’s very rare these days for someone to be purely on camera,” said Glynn. “You’ve got to know how to do some other things. You’ve got to be entertaining, and you’ve got to be able to draw people to you ...
“When I was in school, the majority of my classmates had internships for local radio or TV stations. Those aren’t really an option anymore, unfortunately. You might not necessarily get the formal education of having professors tell you what’s good and what’s bad, but there’s this nifty little thing called the comments section . And if your content sucks, people will be happy to tell you.”
