Stephen Sondheim, the composer and lyricist behind such classics as 'Company,' 'Sweeney Todd,' 'Into the Woods' and more, has passed away. The legend collected nine Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, an Oscar and eight Grammys during his incomparable career
recalled nervously meeting Sondheim at his Manhattan townhouse after being cast as the Witch.
Stephen Joshua Sondheimwas born March 22, 1930, in New York City. His father, Herbert, was a dress manufacturer, and his mother, Etta, a Parsons School of Design graduate who created the designs for the gowns. The family lived in a large apartment on Central Park West.
