The Northern Irishman has impressed in his two managerial stints in the Scottish Premiership and his captain loved working with him.
The Northern Irishman has been passed over by big-name Scottish clubs despite sustained achievement with Motherwell and St Mirren. Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs all looked elsewhere in recent seasons after lukewarm links with Robbo. That’s baffling to former Fir Park skipper Hartley who believes Robinson is destined for much better. He took Motherwell to two cup finals and a third-place finish in nearly four years with the Steelmen.
“Ange Postecoglou is 58, just arrived in the English Premier League and is at the top of it. All those years working hard, thinking your goals and targets won’t be reached then, overnight, it clicks. Hartley will never forget realising Robinson was a special talent on the day of a DEFEAT. The centre-half believes Robbo conducted a masterclass against Brendan Rodgers in the 2017 League Cup Final loss to Celtic.
“I remember looking across at the dugout to Rodgers and he was on the ropes. He could see that we had the momentum. First half was, tactically, 10 out of 10 from our gaffer. But we lost a goal, Cedric Kipre gave away a penalty, got sent off and the game turns on its head. Now with Inter Kashi in India, Hartley said: “He’s a phenomenal person and a great manager. The passion he has for coaching, the sessions he puts on, he keeps you completely mentally engaged. No day is boring. I wouldn’t say he’s the motivational, inspirational type who makes you say: ‘I’m gonna run through brick walls for this man.’
