The ‘Late Show’ host apologized to the Princess of Wales for jokes he made prior to learning of her cancer diagnosis: “When I made those jokes, that upset some people.”
Colbert began Monday night’s Late Show from behind his desk, setting a more somber tone for his monologue. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we do a lot of shows. I tell a lot of jokes, and I tell a lot of jokes about different things—mostly what everyone’s talking about,” said Colbert. He went on to point out that for the last few months, the world has been discussing the mysterious disappearance of the Princess of Wales from the public sector.
She sent a notice to CBS proclaiming the affair allegations “false” via her legal representative, who also issued the following statement to In Touch magazine: “The rumor appears to have entered into the mainstream media recently as a result of another joke made about it on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. We have written on our client’s behalf to CBS and various other reputable media organizations to confirm that the allegation is false.
