In-form striker Iqraam Rayners was a major absentee for the Maroons, who handed a debut to goalkeeper Reid Bombay while Grant Margeman back in the line-up for Matsatsantsa.
Stellies did stage promising penetrations afterwards, although they though lacked the necessary cutting edge to get beyond the defence as matters remained balanced. The Maroons looked to hit the ground running in the second half with a low rasping shot outside the area by Jayden Adams, but Ricardo Goss was able to get down and parry.
A host of substitutions were installed by Stellies coach Steve Barker later on, as Fawaaz Basadien, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Ibraheem Jabaar and Devon Titus came on the park.
