Organizers decide to scrap next year's celebration of pop culture after venue booking abruptly axed
Next year’s Steel City Nerdcon is officially cancelled, and organizers are unsure if Sault Ste. Marie’s annual celebration of pop culture and all things nerdy will even continue to exist going forward.
“We’re really bummed out about it,” said Turcotte, who also owns Vintage Games 'N Junque on Queen Street East. “There’s no big financial gain for us doing Nerdcon.” Turcotte says that while arena officials offered to rent out the gardens at a discount, he was later informed by the Downtown Association that it had no desire to change its annual Poutine Feast event.
Nerdcon organizers say Sault Ste. Marie has a lot of potential, but more needs to be done in order to realize it.
