NSW defeats Queensland 26-20 in Game III to win back-to-back State of Origin Series for the first time in 14 years.
Phil Gould has revealed he is worried Queensland will ambush NSW even before kick-off with a pre-match mindgame that could drain the Blues’ of their energy before they even hit the ANZ Stadium turf.
The Blues will then use a tunnel beneath the bowels of ANZ Stadium to travel straight from the running track oval across to the eastern side of the stadium. Gould is “bothered” by the decision because it could all go pear-shaped if Queensland is able to exploit the fact that any delay to the scheduled kick-off time would leave NSW players standing around with nothing to do.Their walk from the training paddock to the stadium will be broadcast by Channel 9 cameras with the vision also being streamed into the stadium before the Blues run-out.
Despite accepting Fittler’s reason behind the switch, Gould admits Queensland now has a chance to disrupt their preparation. There’s also the chance that the pre-match entertainment may also run late, leaving the Blues stuck down in the tunnel.
