The Citizens are on a run of two straight defeats – which they suffered against Stellenbosch FC and SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership and sit mid-table on the standings.

Royal AM welcomed back coach John Maduka in style last Saturday and recorded a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal derby following a barren run of form. In their maiden outing in the top-flight last season, Thwihli Thwahla went all the way to the semi-finals of this cup and bowed out to the eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

City crashed out in the first round in the past edition and it was Royal AM under the tenure of Maduka that eliminated them. The Citizens did get the better of Royal AM when the two clashed in the Premiership at the end of last year and emerged 2-1 victors.Mpandle, Mkhize, Cupido, Fielies, Lakay, Mokhouane, Mdantsane, Ambina, Rhodes, Darwin, ZapataRoyal AM: TBA
