At this year's New York Comic Con, writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly revealed they were bringing back the one race that beat the Federation.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT This fall, Star Trek will be bringing back the one species that beat the Federation. For the past year, IDW Publishing’s flagship Star Trek comic has taken fans on an extended thrill-ride through the franchises’ 57-year history, exploring species and concepts only mentioned in the television shows. Now, Captain Sisko and the crew of the USS Theseus are taking on one of the galaxy’s most fearsome races, one never seen on screen.

At this year’s New York Comic-Con, Star Trek writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly revealed that the Tzenkethi would be the central antagonist for the book’s second year. Referring to the Tzenkethi as the one race that “beat the Federation,” Lanzing and Kelly stated that the reptilian-like aliens were on the move, and Sisko and his crew were being sent on a “peace-keeping mission.” Lanzing and Kelly will be joined by artist Marcus To for the new story arc.

The Tzenkethi Are Ripe for Exploration First mentioned in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s fourth season, the Tzenkethi are one of the biggest mysteries in the franchise. Star Trek has not shown the Tzenkethi on-screen, leaving their appearance up to fan speculation, although they did appear in Star Trek Online. Regardless of their appearance, the Tzenkethi are warlike and have had more than one confrontation with the Federation.

The Tzenkethi Have Never Been Seen Before And now, Lanzing, Kelly and To are bringing the Tzenkethi to the forefront of the Star Trek universe. The franchise is vast with lore than runs deep, and a good deal of it has never been seen in a television show or movie, such as the Tzenkethi. Various non-canon sources, including the novels and the aforementioned Star Trek Online, have featured the Tzenkethi, but even those appearances have been few and far between.
