. With points in each of their past seven games now, some previously cold players are turning it around. Jason Zucker and Eric Staal, both part of the trade rumour mill, have a combined 14 points in the past seven games and unlike Columbus, Minnesota’s trade pickups are having instant success. Ryan Donato has two goals and seven points in seven games with the Wild, and Kevin Fiala scored his first two goals against his former team on Tuesday. Thursday’s game against Tampa Bay will be a tough one, but the Wild may be turning a corner here finally.
But the fact is ‘Big Save Dave’ Rittich has a sub-.900 save percentage in 2019 and Smith, who ran hot with a five-game win streak in February has an .891 season save percentage outside that run. Rittich was strong again in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Vegas in which he made 36 saves, but it’d be nice to see some sustained success before the playoffs — Rittich hasn’t had a stretch of three games in a row allowing two goals or less since December.
