Standoff with suicidal man in San Marcos parking lot ends when man surrenders [Breaking]
A short standoff early Tuesday between sheriff’s deputies and a suicidal man inside a RV ended with the man surrendering and being taken for a mental health evaluation, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.
Someone called 911 shortly before 3:15 a.m. to report a man was making statements about taking his own life in a Home Depot parking lot off West San Marcos Boulevard near Westlake Drive, said sheriff’s Lt. Gavin Lanning. Deputies responded to the scene and ordered the man to exit the RV, but he did not follow directions. Crisis negotiators were called to assist, Lanning said.Negotiators talked with the man until, around 5:45 a.m., he agreed to come out of the RV and surrender to deputies, Lanning said. The lieutenant said he did not know if any weapons were found.
