Police in Ontario, near Mansfield, said officers received a call at about 9 p.m. Sunday about a man who had allegedly violated a protection order.When officers arrived, they found Vance at a home in the Walker Lake neighborhood, holding a woman, whom authorities later determined to be his girlfriend, hostage.
At one point, Vance fired at officers, one of whom was struck. "This is the worst situation you never want your officers to be involved in," Ontario police chief Tommy Hill said. "There were children running out of the house. There were adults thrown out of the house we didn't suspect was coming out.""They are heroes," he said. "I love them and they just did an amazing job."
