The MVNO now partners with leading brands like Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Huawei, Lenovo, and HP, providing a diverse selection of devices. The rebranding also saw Standard Bank Connect switch from Cell C to MTN as its network partner.
Standard Bank Connect has relaunched its device offering, providing customers with access to a wide range of tech brands and flexible financing options. The mobile virtual network operator ( MVNO ) now partners with prominent brands like Apple , Samsung , Vivo, Huawei, Lenovo , and HP, mirroring a similar offering available to customers of FNB Connect.
Kartik Mistry, head of Standard Bank Connect, emphasized the importance of affordability, accessibility, and flexibility in reshaping how customers acquire technology to stay connected and productive. A key differentiator in their financing model is that customers only need an active SIM card to qualify, unlike traditional financing methods that often require a bundled SIM card with the device. Mistry highlighted the customer-centric approach by stating that individuals can choose their preferred financing term, opting for 12, 24, or 36 months. Furthermore, they can reduce monthly installments by making a 50% deposit on the device cost. Mistry underscored Standard Bank Connect's commitment to becoming the leading provider of comprehensive connectivity solutions that are simple, valuable, and flexible. He added that they plan to expand their offering over time to include more brands, categories, and features, ensuring customers receive exceptional value. The MVNO, initially launched in 2018 as Standard Bank Mobile, rebranded to Standard Bank Connect in mid-2024. This rebranding coincided with the introduction of new data and voice packages and a strategic shift from their previous partner network, Cell C, to MTN. This move involved Standard Bank acquiring access to Cell C's radio frequency spectrum, allowing MTN to enhance network capacity. Cell C, in turn, explained that it would focus on its service offering instead of competing with MTN and Vodacom in infrastructure investments, as the latter two companies collectively invest approximately R10 billion annually in their South African networks. Despite no longer operating its own physical radio access network, Cell C continues to provide services to major MVNOs in South Africa, including Capitec Connect and FNB
