He cautions, however, that this does not signal full recovery, but is just a start towards it.
The Stampede has benefited from sunny skies, hot temperatures and what Carson Ackroyd, vice-president of sales for Tourism Calgary, calls a pent up need to travel. He said hotel bookings are a strong indicator of the return of international guests and those from other parts of the country. “It gives you hope and optimism,” he said. “I think we’re going to see great economics and I think Stampede has been a significant economic impact and brought happiness amongst our membership.”
He noted even the conference and meeting calendar is starting to book up again, which has always been assumed to be the last sector to take the step to recovery due to the amount of planning and booking involved. Pulling off the Stampede has not been without challenges for the hospitality sector, specifically when it comes to staffing the 10 days.Article content
