SAN FRANCISCO — Zach Collins knew filling in for injured Spurs star Victor Wembanyama would be tough. After all, the shoes Collins would be asked to fill were literally size 21s. Hours before the Spurs were to face Sacramento on Thursday with Wembanyama back in San Antonio with a right ankle sprain, Collins called his shot. Before he was allowed to leave shootaround in Sacramento, Collins was scheduled for an NBA mandated drug screening. When someone suggested the league should wait to test Collins after he registered the promised seven blocks, he laughed again. “I think they’re being predictive,” he said. Collins did not get any blocks in the Spurs’ heartbreaking 131-129 near-miss against the Kings.

When we’re at our best is when we share the ball like that.” Jones notched two points on only one field-goal try against the Kings, but rang up a season-best 12 assists.
