“I think Ian is going to be here this week to look at the horses jumping,” Deslauriers said. “And we have to keep the horses nice and healthy, because the Pan Am Games are basically end of October, beginning of November this year.

Among the Canadian stars under Millar’s watch are Deslauriers, Calgary’s Kara Chad, Ontario’s Erynn Ballard, Ontario’s Beth Underhill and the chef d’équipe’s daughter, Ontario’s Amy Millar. Of the frontrunners to ride for Canada in their qualifying charge, Chad and Ballard are the only ones without Olympic experience.
