Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus missed out on the World Rugby Coach of the Year award in a surprising and controversial way on Sunday evening. The Springboks will spend Christmas and New Year at the top of the World Rugby rankings and will look down on their rivals for the whole of January 2025. While none of the southern hemisphere nations will be in action until mid-2025, the northern hemisphere heavyweights will compete in the Six Nations, starting on Friday, January 31.
A successful defense of their title could see Ireland regain the top spot, while France could also make a strong run depending on the results. While the British Lions will tour Australia, and the All Blacks will welcome France for three Tests, the Springboks will only have matches against Georgia and potentially some lower-ranked teams.
