Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba, on stand-by for the World Cup, believes his national teammates can derive some home comforts from Bordeaux.
South Africa play their World Cup group game against Romania in the city and can brace themselves for"Stellenbosch on steroids".
Yet, while Dweba eventually made a decent fist of living and playing in France, the hiccups and growing pains were very much real. Indeed, French bureaucracy - even if it's probably a bit more effective than South Africa's - is a major challenge. "You realise there's no porridge, which is a bit of a setback. So, we just bought some Kellogg's and Weetbix. And eggs, obviously. Nonetheless, it was indicative of how you slowly start finding your feet.
"Nonetheless, it was crazy playing there. It was always full. It didn't matter which game it was or what time of the day, it was always packed. I really never experienced something like that. You believe it's reserved for soccer."
