As the Springboks continue to build depth and expose more newcomers to Test rugby, it also spells the end of the road for certain stalwarts.
At the start of the 2024 Test season, it has become very obvious that Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus is determined to build extensive depth during this next year World Cup cycle.
At the start of this past season, the 37-year-old continued to make an impression for the Stormers, but he was notably omitted from the Springboks’ first alignment camps of the year. The 68-cap prop has only featured once for the Springboks this year, off the bench against Portugal, with the likes of Thomas du Toit, Vincent Koch and Frans Malherbe all offering plenty of coverage at tighthead prop.
