Rags ignited in the laundry area of a downtown commercial building shortly after 4:30 a.m., says Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services
Crews from Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a fire at a commercial building on St. Mary’s River Drive shortly after 4:30 this morning.
The fire was contained to the laundry area, and investigation determined that “spontaneous combustion of rags” was the cause. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, and damage was contained to the building’s laundry area. “Sault Fire Services wants to remind all commercial businesses to ensure soiled rags and linens are thoroughly cleaned, with appropriate detergent, and stored properly, especially while hot,” says a news release issued by Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services. “For more information on proper storage techniques, business owners are encouraged to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services Fire Prevention Division.
