Dealing with the fallout from the X-Men’s Hellfire Gala cataclysm, the backup story by Celesete Bronfman, David López, KJ Díaz, and VC's Joe Caramagna in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 finds Mary Jane’s Aunt Anna going berserk at her own birthday party thanks to tainted Krakoan medicines.

Peter remarks to MJ that it was lucky she found Anna’s sleeping pills, only for his former love to respond that they were her pills. She then reveals that she and Paul have been staying with Anna ever since the “deaths” of Mary Jane's kids – to which Peter hardly bats an eye. He simply responds with “Anna is going to be okay” without taking a moment to acknowledge Mary Jane’s loss.

Even before Anna Watson’s violent outburst, Peter was seemingly comfortable with MJ and Paul; the three of them spoke like old friends, despite Spider-Man and Paul’s hostilities over the course of this very series. This somewhat awkward dynamic implies that the young Mr. Parker is well and truly over his old flame — to the point that he can’t even pick up on how desperately she needs him right now. This is possibly the end of what was once one of Marvel’s most beloved pairings.
