The new animated superhero movie follows Miles Morales/Spider-Man as he goes on another adventure through the multiverse with Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider . This film is the sequel to the 2018 smash hit, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Across the Spider-Verse has earned $17.35 million in Thursday previews at the box office. For comparison, the movie’s predecessor earned about $3.5 million in Thursday night previews. This means the sequel grossed five times what Into the Spider-Verse earned on Thursday night. The hefty $17.35 million is the second-largest Thursday night opening in Spider-Man history, trailing only behind Spider-Man: No Way Home at $50 million.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham and is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. It stars Shameik Moore, Oscar Isaac, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Laurén Velez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Shea Wingham, Greta Lee, Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Dratch, Daniel Kaluuya, Mahershala Ali, and Andy Samberg. It is now playing in theaters.
