Chicken chain acquired business that started in Toronto last year

The Mary Brown’s location at the corner of Water Street and Adelaide Street in downtown St. John’s will close March 11. Fat Bastard Burrito Co., a brand Mary Brown's acquired last year, will open its first location outside Ontario in the same space this summer. — Joe Gibbons/The TelegramST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Mary Brown's is saying so long to its downtown St. John's location in order to introduce local customers to a newly acquired food brand with some spice and zing.

"Mary Brown's is born and raised in Newfoundland, and we have a cult-like following in that market," Bell said."We absolutely wanted to bring the brand out there and share it with our rabid fans on the Mary Brown's side. ... The brand does have a younger demographic, and works well in and around universities, bar areas and downtown cores. That's really where Fat Bastard started, was in the downtown Toronto market.

"The great thing about this is it's a fully customizable product,” Bell said. “People really can't get bored. You can come in any day of the week and really create something new for yourself. We have nine different sauces and a variety of fresh toppings, eight or nine different protein that they can add. ... I think that's the biggest thing people should expect — fresh ingredients and good variety.
