LGE2021 | The Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) announced that overnight storms blew away tents in certain voting districts in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and the North West.

The Electoral Commission of SA announced that overnight storms blew away tents in certain voting districts in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and the North West.

Despite these setbacks, the commission said it was highly satisfied with the start of the special voting day.It said that the few incidents gave it an opportunity to identify and resolve any challenges ahead of election day on November 1. In a statement on Saturday, the IEC said that tents which were blown away were re-installed while others were replaced. It said the setback did not have a negative bearing on the opening of the voting stations as most of them were opened on time.

Many South Africans who applied for the special vote began casting their ballots at voting stations and during home visits early this morning.Provincial reports reflect that voting is under way, with a few exceptions where there were delays due to bad weather conditions.
