The race is on B.C.! 🍼
As per their annual tradition, British Columbia Lottery Corporation 's PlayNow has begun accepting bets for the race of which provincial hospital will welcome the first baby of 2023.
Early this year, Victoria General Hospital took the crown for the race—welcoming a baby boy born four minutes after midnight to Salt Spring couple Shawna White and fiance Ishmael Grimwood. Meanwhile in 2021, Catherine Harrison and Darcy Doberstein welcomed their daughter—B.C.'s first baby—at 12:21 a.m. in BC Women's Hospital.
Under the BC Special Betting category, participants can make a wager on any 23 B.C. hospitals until Saturday Dec. 31 at 6 a.m.
