Inspector Ralph Chivaviro from the Boksburg SPCA said he still feels anxious about stopping at traffic lights after being involved in a smash-and-grab during which the society’s emergency phone was stolen.
According to Chivaviro, he was on his way back to the SPCA from Kempton Park for an emergency on February 7 at around 21:00 when the incident occurred. “I stopped at the traffic light just before the turnoff onto the R21. A man ran past the driver’s side, catching my attention. “As I watched him, another man smashed the window on the passenger side, leaned in and grabbed the phone. The noise was deafening. It sounded like an explosion or a gunshot,” he said.“It was a terrifying experience and I’m still paranoid every time I have to stop somewhere.”
The society appealed for a new phone and was met with overwhelming support and a phone was donated to them.
