SpaceX has rolled its giant Starship to the launch site at Boca Chica, leading to speculation a launch may be near. But a key ingredient is still missing for the first orbital launch attempt from South Texas.
But SpaceX’s plans still hinge on the federal government giving it the go-ahead.
Nonetheless, SpaceX on Saturday moved its Starship prototype Ship 24 to the launch site. Earlier last week, the company had lifted its Super Heavy booster — the first stage of the spacecraft — onto the launch mount. That same month, the company filed plans with regulators describing the possibility of a 90-minute orbital flight from South Texas to the coast of Hawaii.In October, a senior NASA official who oversees the Artemis program said SpaceX would launch its first Starship in early December. In January, Musk took to Twitter to announce Starship would launch in February or March. The predictions came as SpaceX set out to raise $750 million in a funding round that values the company at $137 billion.
